Cambodian Government Prevents Release of 10 million Cubic Meters of Toxic Waste

In a significant environmental achievement, the Cambodian government has successfully prevented the release of over 10 million cubic meters of toxic liquid waste in the past seven months. The Ministry of Environment announced this milestone on its official Facebook page today.

The proactive measures taken by the Ministry, which involved collaboration with factory owners, enterprises, and companies, included the installation of automatic monitoring devices and robust data management systems for liquid waste discharge. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to environmental protection and compliance with national laws.

As of early August 2025, a total of 91 factories and companies have installed these advanced monitoring systems at their facilities, ensuring adherence to the Environmental and Natural Resources Code and other legal standards in Cambodia.

The Ministry expressed gratitude to all participating companies and municipalities for their cooperation in adhering to environmental technical standards. These efforts underline the importance of corporate responsibility in safeguarding Cambodia’s natural resources and promoting sustainable industrial practices.

Recently, the Ministry of Environment released instructions, issued modification letters, and imposed immediate interim fines on nearly 30 factories, companies, and other commercial buildings for illegally discharging at least 1,366,560 cubic meters of liquid waste into public areas. (Read more)
