Cambodia’s Rubber Industry Thrives, Promises Economic Growth

Cambodia’s rubber industry is on the rise, with 179 rubber processing factories and craft now operational across the nation, marking a notable increase in production and employment opportunities. This surge reflects a commitment to bolstering economic growth and empowering local communities.

During the inauguration of the Try Pheap Import Export Co., Ltd.’s new rubber processing factory in Preah Vihear, HE Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, announced that the country has added six new factories since 2023, contributing to an impressive 140,000 jobs for Cambodian citizens. The diverse facilities include 56 rubber processing factories, one rubber water processing factory, 101 rubber sheet processing factories, and 21 rubber wood processing factories.

The momentum in the sector has translated into significant financial gains, with Cambodia earning a remarkable USD 671.7 million from rubber exports in 2024—an increase of over USD 150 million compared to the previous year. Domestic tyre factories have played a vital role in this growth, purchasing 58,000 tons of local rubber valued at approximately USD 96.4 million, marking an increase of more than USD 50 million from 2023.

“Today’s event underscores the importance of the rubber industry in our national economy,” Minister Dith Tina stated. He emphasised the government’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for private-sector investment in the rubber sector to enhance job creation, increase household incomes, and drive export growth.
