Completion Date Delayed Again for US$8 million Kampot Tourism Port

The completion date of US$8 million Kampot tourism port has been delayed once again to March 2022 after multiple delays since 2020, according to the Kampot Provincial Department of Tourism.

Soy Sinol, Director of the Department of Tourism, said on Thursday 6 January that the port project has been previously scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021, but it is delayed due to construction work disrupted by the COVID-19 crisis.

However, he did not have any details regarding the progress of the port construction.

Located in Toek Chhu district, the project began construction in 2018 and is being built under an US$8 million loan from the Asia Development Bank (ABD).

Upon completion, the port will be able to accommodate 1 million tourists and passengers and will be the main gateway connecting tourism vessels from Thailand and Vietnam to Cambodia’s Kampot province.

The construction of this project has been delayed many times due to the impact of COVID-19. From the original plan to open for operation in April 2020, it was delayed to early 2021 then to mid and late 2021.
