Construction of Standardized Landfill in Svay Rieng officially Begin

The construction of the new standardized landfill in Svay Rieng province officially began on 16 December with the groundbreaking ceremony presided over by  Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment HE Chay Samith.

Located in Ok Neak Village of Sangkat Sangkor, the landfill is being built on an area of 46,200 square meters. The landfill will have the capacity to handle the solid waste in four districts of Svay Rieng province, including Svay Rieng city, Romduol district, Svay Teap district, and Svay Chrum district.

The construction is scheduled to take about 12 months to be completed.

Among all waste in Cambodia, only over 64% is collected and dumped in landfill. Over 35% of garbage is thrown into the water source and thrown into the open field. (Read more)

To help tackle with this issue, the World Bank (WB) has provided about US$60 million to implement a project to improve solid waste and plastic waste management in Cambodia. (Read more)
