Construction of US$38m Koh Pic-Koh Norea Bridge 62% Complete

The construction of the Koh Pich-Koh Norea cable-stayed bridge is now 62% complete as of 4 March 2023 according to Phnom Penh’s Department of Public Works and Transport.

With a budget of US$38 million, the bridge is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, and it will serve as an important gateway connecting the centre of Phnom Penh to National Road No. 1. This new infrastructure will help alleviate traffic congestion on the two existing Monivong bridges.

In response to the traffic congestion around the Preah Monivong flyover, the Phnom Penh Capital Administration is proposing a new ferry service from Koh Norea to Chroy Changva, located near the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh. (Read more)

However, residents in the area are requesting the government to expedite the construction of a concrete cable bridge from Koh Norea to Koh Pich as soon as possible. They believe this is the best solution to ease current traffic congestion.

The bridge, which is being built by the Cambodian Overseas Investment Company (OCIC), is located in Sangkat Niroth, Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh. The Phnom Penh Capital Administration is overseeing the project’s management, and it is expected to bring significant benefits to the local community by reducing traffic congestion and improving connectivity.
