EU Provides €11.5 Million to Enhance Infrastructure in Kandal Province

The European Union (EU) through the French Development Agency (AFD) has signed an agreement with the government of Cambodia to provide financing of €11.5 million to construct and renovate the irrigation system in Kandal province, according to press release from the French Embassy in Phnom Penh.

The signing ceremony for the provision of the funding was held on 06 March, between H.E. Vongsey Vissoth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF); and Yazid Bensaid, Regional Director of ADF during their annual meeting.

The project aims to improve the irrigation system in Kandal province as well as to enhance the water management in the agriculture sector in Cambodia. This is a continuous project funded and complimented by AFD which to date has provided a total of €55 million.

Besides signing the agreement, both parties also discussed the progress of their other ongoing projects, as well as details of the 3-year-future plan on urban and rural development.

Since its establishment in 1993, AFD and its subsidiary Proparco have financed a total of €576 million for projects to help support Cambodia’s economic and social development.
