Government Approves Construction of Big C Supermarket in Banteay Meanchey

The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has given the green light to Big C Supercenter (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. to build a supermarket in Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey province at a cost of US$6.8 million, according to a CDC report released on Facebook on February 20, 2019.

According to the CDC, the hypermarket project is located in Kbal Spean 1 village, Poipet district, Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey province and will target mid-to-low income customers offering value through a combination of low prices, a wide selection, a clean and efficient shopping environment, and good service to the province.

Apart from responding to the needs of the daily life, the project will also create jobs for 1,222 people in the area.

However, the CDC has not yet clarified the details of the project, such as the start and completion dates of construction.

Poipet is currently experiencing tremendous economic momentum, as it is a city bordering Thailand, and has become one of Cambodia’s major economies. Particularly remarkable in recent years, is the way in which this city has developed, especially in the construction and real estate sectors.
