Gov’t to Inject Funds Building COVID-19 Vaccine Factory Should Licensed Firm Delay

The head of the Cambodian government, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, has announced that he will release government funds to build the COVD-19 vaccine plant if the licensed company still can’t commence the work. This announcement was made during a meeting with a group of volunteer doctors with Samdech Techo Hun Sen on 17 May 2022.

Speaking at the ceremony, Samdech Hun Sen questioned the Ministry of Health about the delay in setting up the COVID-19 vaccine factory in Cambodia by ordering the ministry to report to him on a weekly basis. If the company fails to implement the project, the license will be revoked by the government which will implement the project itself instead.

“Relevant parties need to re-discuss the process of setting up the COVID-19 vaccine factory as soon as possible. We will not hold back, as soon as COVID-19 disappears from the earth, we can also use the plant to produce other vaccines to meet social needs,” explained Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

The announcement that the government will release the money to build the COVID vaccine factory and issued a warning to revoke the license of a vaccine manufacturer that has received permission from the Ministry of Health now comes after receiving reports from the Chinese side that the Cambodian side has delayed setting up a manufacturing plant.
