Impact Resettlement for New PP Airport Ongoing; Some Land Plot Holders Refuse to Relocate

The new Phnom Penh Airport Developer Cambodia Investment Co Ltd (CAIC) this morning handed over new land titles to 16 owners (equivalent to 31 plots) whose lands were affected by the new airport construction.

The handover ceremony was held in the presence of Kandal Governor HE Kong Sophoan and Deputy General Director of CAIC Mr Charles Van.

HE Kong Sophoan stated the construction of the new Phnom Penh International Airport requires a total land of 2,600 hectares, and some of that belonged to the local people.

Thus far, the firm in cooperation with the government has been actively undertaking the resettlement process. In May, a total of affected 171 families have officially received their new houses in a new location under an exchange agreement. (Read more)

However, to date, there are still 11 landowners who have yet to agree to either exchange land or sell their plots.

HE Kong Sophoan urged those owners to cooperate with the government so that construction of the new airport is not interrupted.

The new Phnom Penh International Airport project was announced in 2018 with an investment of US$1.5 billion. This airport is expected to complete construction by 2023.
