Banteay Meanchey’s Irrigation Project Achieves Over 45% Completion

The ambitious irrigation development project aimed at mitigating flood disasters in Banteay Meanchey province has reached a significant milestone, achieving 45.07% completion. This progress was confirmed by Mr Ponh Sach, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, during a project inspection on 8 June 2024.

In an interview with PM Hun Manet’s press team, Mr Ponh Sach highlighted that the project is progressing 2.17% faster than planned and is on track for completion by June 2026. He underscored the project’s future potential, noting that once completed, it will irrigate approximately 18,416 hectares during the rainy season and 3,500 hectares in the dry season. The project will benefit 11 communes across Malai district, O’Chrov district, Poipet City, and Serey Sophorn City, serving a population of 42,213 families.

The project is set to provide substantial support to agriculture and other sectors, enhancing the province’s resilience to flood-related disasters and boosting local agricultural productivity.
