Japan Hands Over New US$30million Facilities to Teacher Education Colleges

The new facilities and other infrastructure at the Phnom Penh and Battambang Teacher Education Colleges, which were built using the Japanese aid grant of over US$30 million, have been completed and handed over.

According to a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) announcement on 25 January, the handover ceremonies of the buildings were held separately. One was at the Phnom Penh Teacher Education College on 12 January, and the other at the Battambang Teacher Education College on 15 January.

Those new facilities include a special lecture room & academic building, administration building, library, assembly hall, among others.

JICA hopes these two buildings will help the two colleges expand their program to undergraduate level. In addition, this project also helps contribute to improving the education system in Cambodia through better teaching training.

As of October 2020, the Japanese government has thus far provided at least US$1 billion in funds, including grant aid and loans for Cambodia infrastructure development.(Read more)
