Koh Kong Allows Chinese Firm to Construct NR 1551, Requests Impact Study

Koh Kong provincial authorities have allowed a Chinese firm who won recently a bid to National Road 1551 but subject to conducting a geographic, population and environmental impact study.

The meeting on reviewing and commenting on the complete environmental and social impact assessment report for NR 1551 project was held online under the presence of Mr Ouk Pheaktra, Deputy Governor of Koh Kong Province on 03 December.

After the meeting, all the Koh Kong provincial leaders supported the project but also ordered the firm to figure out the proper traffic flow plan during the construction as well.

Besides, the provincial administration also urged the firm to reduce environmental impact, especially in protected areas in the province.

On 24 November 2020, Shen Kan Engineering & Technology Corporation (MCC Shen Kan) won a bid to construct four major national roads, one of which was NR 1551. (Read more)
