LYP Group to Build New Deep-Sea Port on Over 490ha in Koh Kong

The Koh Kong provincial authority has given the initial green light to Koh Kong SEZ Co., Ltd. of the LYP Group to develop a new deep-sea port in Kirisakor district, while the relevant parties are currently conducting the impact assessment.

The initial approval was given by Koh Kong Deputy Governor Ouk Pheaktra during the meeting with the firm’s representative on Wednesday 15 December to discuss the study of the environmental and social impacts of the project.

According to the plan, the port will be located an area of 492.64 hectares in Prek Khsach and Yeay Sen villages in Prek Khsach commune, Kirisakor district.

The project will also include the construction of key infrastructures such as administrative buildings, warehouses, workshops, and a deep-sea port.

During the meeting, Mr Ouk Pheaktra expressed his support for the project as it will help boost the water transportation sector of Koh Kong province.

However, he also asked the relevant parties especially the investment firm to reduce the impact on biodiversity and the environment as much as possible, pay more attention to the waste management from ships, factories, and the construction process.

“More importantly, the company must ensure that the construction of buildings and port comply with the technical standards,” he added.
