MPWT reveals alignment of Chroy Chongvar–Svay Chrom bridge, construction to begin in 2023

The Cambodian government is currently selecting the location and model of the Chroy Chongvar–Svay Chrom bridge, with construction expected to begin in 2023, according to Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol on 9 January.

“Two locations and alignments are being considered. The first one is to connect from the Water Supply Authority on Keo Chenda Street in Chroy Changvar District to Svay Chrum. Meanwhile, the one is to connect from the Old Market to the Sokha Hotel area with one bridge and from Sokha hotel area to the Arey Ksat with another bridge,” said HE Chanthol.

“We will choose the alignment that is cost-effective and create less impact,” he added.

Regarding the bridge model, there are 3 types being considered such as a normal bridge, a cable-stayed bridge, or a bridge similar to the one in Neak Leung.

“We are finalizing things now. Hopefully, the project will be on the bid and begin construction by 2023,” said HE Chanthol.

According to HE Park Heung-kyeong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, after Cambodia requested the bridge, the Korean government approved the assistance.

Then, a Korean company studied the project. The company has completed the study recently and submitted it to the Cambodian government for site selection and alignment. (Read more)
