Nearly 19 Hectares of Landfill Inaugurated in Kampong Cham City

The Kampong Cham City Garbage Disposal Site, covering an area of 18.67 hectares in Koh Roka Village, Koh Roka Commune, Kampong Siem District, Kampong Cham Province, has been officially inaugurated. This ceremony took place on December 24, 2024.

The landfill is part of the Greater Mekong Subregion Corridor Development Project, Phase 4, funded by a concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and constructed by BM Construction & Electric Co., Ltd. The project, which took 11 months to complete, aims to meet the growing waste management needs of the community.

In its first phase, the landfill will facilitate local waste storage for the next seven years, from 2024 to 2031. Approximately 85% of the local population, or about 908,000 people, is expected to benefit from this essential service. The affected areas include communities in Boeung Kak, Kampong Cham, Sambour Meas, Veal Vong, Ampil, and Khveal communes within the Kampong Siem District.

The Kampong Cham Landfill Development Project represents a pioneering effort to enhance the quality of life for local residents by promoting a cleaner and safer environment. This initiative is a significant step forward in solid waste management and reflects ongoing progress toward sustainability in the Mekong region.
