“When the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport opens, the old one will be completely closed, and what purpose the site of the old airport will be used depends on the government’s decision,” said HE Sin Chansereyvutha.

The Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is a US$880 million project and is scheduled to conduct trial flights and technical equipment in May. Once the old airport is closed, the decision on how to use the site will depend on the APSARA Authority as the airport is located in an area under its control.

Meanwhile, Phnom Penh International Airport will be used as a military airbase, domestic airport, cargo terminal, plane parking, and other purposes once the Techo Takhmao International Airport, which is currently under construction, launches in 2024.

All three airports, Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap International Airport, and Sihanoukville International Airport, are investments by Cambodia Airports (SCA).
