Siem Reap 38-Road Renovations 80% Complete

Despite the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in Siem Reap, the construction of the 38-road renovation project remains on track, and now over 80% complete, according to a progress update meeting on Wednesday 13 October.

Siem Reap Deputy Governor Pin Prak said during the meeting that the entire project could reach final completion by the end of the year and be officially inaugurated for public usage early next year.

Mr Prak also emphasised that the administration still witnessed a lot of people parking their vehicles, setting up booths, and operating businesses on the sidewalk of the under-construction roads, despite warnings not to do so.

Thus, Mr Prak requested once again the cooperation of the public to stop those activities or otherwise face legal action. (Read more)

With a total length of 108km and estimated to consume a total budget of US$140 million, this project stretches across 12 districts of Siem Reap city and a part of Prasat Bakong and the 38 roads will be well-connected with other main road systems to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents.

The government also decided to reallocate the remaining budget from Sihanoukville’s 34-road renovation project to upgrade the sidewalks along the Siem Reap River. Another separate US$9-million budget has also been reallocated to restore rainwater and sewage systems.
