National Road 7 Expansion Project Progress Report: 56% Complete

The expansion and upgrade of National Road 7, stretching from Skun roundabout to Kizuna Bridge, has reached an impressive 56% completion, as announced by HE Un Chanda, Governor of the Kampong Cham Provincial Government, during a recent Provincial Council meeting.

The governor provided a comprehensive overview of the project’s progress, highlighting notable advancements in several key areas:

  1. Road Construction: 60.25% of the 45.5 kilometres of new roadway has been completed.
  2. Bridge Construction: Work on eight bridge sites stands at an impressive 94.75% completion.
  3. Road Drainage: Drainage work at 50 sites has reached 96.15% completion.
  4. T-Shaped Stone Canal: Construction of the canal has achieved 15.95% completion over a total length of 560 metres.
  5. Corner Drainage: 46.72% of the corner drainage work, totalling 12,941 metres, has been completed.
  6. Road Shoulder Opening: Out of 113 sites designated for road shoulder openings, 50% completion has been achieved, as 56 sites are currently underway.

HE Un Chanda emphasised the importance of the road shoulder areas, stating that they are planned to be converted into parks with tree plantings and the installation of street lights. Additionally, new traffic lights will be incorporated to enhance safety and efficiency.

This significant infrastructure project, which commenced construction in January 2023, is backed by a concessional loan from the Chinese government amounting to USD 117 million. The initiative aims not only to improve transportation access from Cheung Prey district to the provincial capital of Kampong Cham but also to foster economic growth and development in the region.
