Canopy Sands Development Plans to Build Cambodia’s First Cable Car Project in Bay Of Lights

Canopy Sands Development, a member of the Prince Holding Group of Cambodia, is set to begin construction of Cambodia’s first cable car project in Bay Of Lights, Sihanoukville, in early 2024. The project is part of the Bay of Lights development covering 934 hectares. The announcement was made by AMS on 12 April 2023, and the project will be developed under the investment of Canopy Sands Development.

The cable car project is part of Canopy Sands Development’s master plan to create a tourist attraction in Ream City. The company signed an agreement with Doppelmayr Gruppe on 15 March 2023, to bring the first cable basket project to Cambodia.

According to Mr Ke Bin Soreasmey, CEO of Confluence, a feasibility study for the project is underway with Doppelmayr International Cable Car Co., Ltd. He expects the research to be completed by the end of this year and construction to start as early as 2024.

Mr Soreasmey said that “Confluence and DOPPELMAYR International Cable Car Co., Ltd. have been working together on a feasibility study for the construction of the first cable car project. The number of cable baskets to be installed will be checked according to the needs as well as the capital of the investment company.”

In addition to Sihanoukville, Doppelmayr Gruppe is exploring the possibility of connecting the cable car project it plans to invest in with public transport projects being implemented and studied in Phnom Penh. (Read more)

The Bay of Lights development project, worth over $16 billion, started on December 20, 2022, after the project’s master plan was approved in 2021. The project is expected to attract three million tourists by 2030, create 330,000 new jobs by 2040, and provide 40,000 new homes. The project is also expected to bring an additional population growth of up to 160,000 by 2050. (Read more)

With this new development, Cambodia’s tourism industry is set to benefit from a new attraction that will create more jobs and spur economic growth in the region.
