Gov’t Reforms Angkor Ticket Sales & Inspection to Enhance Tourist Convenience

The Cambodian government has announced six key reforms to streamline the sale and inspection of Angkor tickets, aiming to improve the overall experience for tourists visiting the Angkor Archaeological Park.

This initiative includes the introduction of automated ticket vending machines near the temples, simplifying procedures for both domestic and international visitors. The decision was reached during the 4th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Angkor Institute on 27 August 2024, chaired by HE Aun Porn Moniroth, Minister of Economy and Finance, with further details provided by HE Ly Se, Director General of the Angkor Institute, on 2 September 2024.

  1. Among the reforms, one-day ticket purchases will no longer require tourists to provide personal details such as photos, nationality, or gender, starting from the end of September 2024.
  2. However, for three-day and seven-day tickets, guest photography will continue until the end of the year.
  3. Additionally, the control system will be simplified by reducing the number of control points to just the temple entrances.
  4. To further facilitate the process, the Angkor Institute will implement an advanced IT system with self-service machines, a mobile app, and support for electronic payments.
  5. By January 2025, the Angkor Institute will also explore the introduction of wristband-style tickets and establish a joint working group to review further reforms, including a group ticketing system for temple visits.
  6. Automated ticket machines are expected to be operational near the temples by October 2024, providing more convenience for tourists who do not buy tickets online.

During the meeting, HE Ly Se also emphasised the need to set up an automated ticket vending machine within the Angkor resort, particularly upgrading toilets and strengthening the efficiency of revenue management and ticket inspection procedures.
