Three Large Dam Rehabilitation Projects in Mondulkiri Officially Inaugurated

Three major dam rehabilitation projects in Mondulkiri province, including the Otethipadi Dam, Sen Sokdom Dam, and Sen Monorom Dam, have been officially inaugurated.

The inauguration took place under the presidency of His Excellency Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on October 24, 2024.

These development projects were funded with a budget of approximately USD 62 million, supported by the Royal Government of Cambodia’s budget support fund which was established on October 18, 2021. The three dams are set to provide clean water to the livelihoods of 3,400 families in Sen Monorom City and 2,000 families in the Oreang district of Mondulkiri province.

Additionally, these reservoirs will serve as a crucial water source for irrigating approximately 1,500 hectares of agro-industrial crops and will contribute to the development of tourism in Mondulkiri province. (Read more)

The multi-sectoral water resource development project in Mondulkiri is part of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology’s master plan to supply water resources to all sectors, addressing the needs of the province and promoting tourism growth in the region.

According to a speech by His Majesty the King during the inauguration ceremony, from 1994 to the present, Cambodia has constructed over 1,137 reservoirs, eight large-scale irrigation systems, and 2,366 irrigation canals, which together can irrigate more than 1 million hectares at a cost of USD 1.8 billion.
