Two bridges in the Boeung Tumpun satellite city project worth US$ 5m began construction

The development of Phnom Penh’s Boeung Tumpun-Choeung Ek satellite city project continues with the construction of two new bridges, costing a total of $5 million. The concrete structures, with a combined length of 180 meters and a width of 28.5 meters, will be situated on Neak Oknha Moha Pheakdey Boulevard and Hun Neang Blvd in the southern development area of Meanchey district.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction site was presided over by HE Khuong Sreng, Governor of the Board of Governors of Phnom Penh, on 25 March 2023.

Once completed, the first bridge will be 20 meters by 28.5 meters, and the second will be 160 meters by 28.5 meters. The project is expected to take 24 months to finish and will enhance traffic flow and improve the city’s beauty.

According to HE Khuong Sreng, the two bridges will connect the entire boulevard of Neak Oknham Har Kdey Porsipathipat Hun Hun Neang, which is a strategic road connecting Samdech Techo Hun Sen Blvd. to Street 371, which will make the city more competitive, primarily by reducing the cost of transporting products and services. The bridges are part of the government’s plan to develop the area into a new satellite city, further enhancing the socioeconomic potential of Phnom Penh.

The Boeung Tumpun-Choeung Ek satellite city development project will include the construction of three boulevards and other additional urbanisation plans. The three boulevards include (1st line), Samdech Techo Hun Sen Blvd. (2nd line), Neak Oknha Moha Pheakdey Boulevard, Hun Neang Blvd. and (3rd line).

The other additional construction plans include 61 main roads and many other artistic structures, such as clean water networks, electricity networks, fibre optic cables, drainage systems, rainwater and wastewater storage, water storage tanks, wastewater treatment plants, and land improvements.
