US$13 Million-Water Treatment Plant in Siem Reap Province Opens

Water treatment Plant which is capacity to supply clean water to 15,000 cubic meter per e was put into operation to supply water to residents in Siem Reap city.

The inauguration ceremony of the Toek Vill Water Treatment Plant of Siem Reap Water Supply Authority was held on December 10 in the present of H.E. Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister and Minister of Industry and Handicraft and Ms Eva Nguyen Binh, French Ambassador to Cambodia.

The water treatment facility is a sovereign loan of French Development Agency (AFD) with US$13 million. About 7,000 families in Siem Reap city benefit to the new water treatment facility.

H.E. Cham Prasidh said that supplying water to people living in Siem Reap city has to think of for long term from next 10 to 20 years and the water supplies are to serve to the economic development and tourism which are forecast to grow in years to come.

According to H.E. Cham Prasidh, water demand in Siem Reap city currently is at 60,000 cubic meter per day and capacity of Siem Reap Water Supply Authority produces about 30,000 cubic meter per day.

H.E. Cham Prasidh said that currently number of residents in Siem Reap city is about 50,000 families but the Siem Reap Water Supply Authority can supply clean water to about 40 percent of total city population.

For her part, Ms Eva Nguyen Binh said France is proud of having a part in contributing on the clean water distribution project in Siem Reap province, home of Angkor Water Temples. She said the project is the symbol of bilateral cooperation of two countries Cambodia and France to be consolidated.

According to H.E. Cham Prasidh, Siem Reap Water Supply Authority is having another water treatment facility project, under the framework of JICA’s concession loan with US$106 million and it can produce clean water about 60,000 cubic meter per day.
