Vietnamese Investment Thrives in Cambodia: 215 Projects Launched and Counting!

As of June this year, Vietnam has made a significant mark on Cambodian development with 215 active investment projects totaling nearly USD 2.94 billion. This expansion underscores Vietnam’s position as one of the top four sources of foreign direct investment in Cambodia.

Speaking on the progress, HE Nguyen Minh Vu, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia, highlighted the stable implementation of many projects that have made impactful contributions to the Cambodian economy and society. These initiatives have not only bolstered infrastructure development but have also created jobs and increased incomes for a substantial number of Cambodian workers, thus enhancing social security and humanitarian efforts in the region.

Cambodia is rapidly emerging as an appealing investment destination, attracting interest from various countries, especially Vietnam. The ambassador noted that numerous Vietnamese businesses are actively exploring opportunities in key regions, including Phnom Penh and provinces such as Svay Rieng, Kampot, Takeo, Kratie, Mondulkiri, Ratanakkiri, Sihanoukville, and Preah Vihear. The sectors drawing the most attention from Vietnamese investors include large-scale agriculture, agricultural product processing, telecommunications, renewable energy, and the mining industry. Additionally, there is notable interest in construction, real estate, and infrastructure projects, aimed at further enhancing the development landscape.

In a bid to foster this growing investment climate, Ambassador Vu emphasized the need for both nations to regularly host events that promote bilateral trade and investment cooperation. Initiatives such as the Cambodia-Vietnam Business Forum, investment promotion meetings, and tourism exhibitions will be crucial for strengthening economic ties.

“The Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia is committed to collaborating with relevant institutions to support and encourage Vietnamese businesses in launching new investments or expanding their operations in Cambodia,” he added.

With these collaborative efforts and the flourishing investment landscape, the partnership between Vietnam and Cambodia is poised for continued growth, benefitting both nations and their citizens.
