Government calls on rental and commercial building businesses to lower or delay payments

Samdech Techo Hun Sen has called on all property owners of rental and commercial buildings business to lower or delay payments for their tenants whose businesses are affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The call was made at a press conference on Additional Measures to Prevent the COVID-19 Pandemic at the National Assembly on the morning of 30 March 2020.

“Renters should lower or delay the rent payment for one or two months to retain tenants after the situation gets back to normal. Then renters should take care of their tenants as if one should take care of the hen so that she can hatch more eggs in the future,” explained the prime minister.

In response to COVID-19 in Cambodia, the government has been taking a number of measures to ensure the sustainability of the real estate and construction sector. Those measures include stamp duty tax exemption for property worth less than US$70,000 for a year, from February 2020 to January 2021. (Read more)
