Gov’t Unveils Ambitious Plan to Transform Villages into “Rural Borey”, Modern Rural Communities

Samdech Hun Manet PM of Cambodia revealed the Royal Government’s groundbreaking initiative to establish “rural boreys” aimed at elevating the living standards of provincial residents. The announcement came during the conclusion of the Ministry of Rural Development’s gathering on 20 March 2024.

“Rural Borey entails the transformation of villages into well-equipped communities, complete with essential infrastructure such as roads, water systems, schools, and hospitals. This holistic approach marks a significant departure from previous practices and underscores our commitment to advancing rural development,” stated PM Hun Manet.

Emphasising the importance of inter-ministerial collaboration, PM Hun Manet urged the Ministry of Land Management, Construction and Urban Planning, Ministry of Rural Development, and other pertinent ministries to synergise efforts in executing the comprehensive rural development plan.

Furthermore, PM Hun Manet underscored his government’s dedication to bridging the urban-rural divide, affirming policies aimed at narrowing the socioeconomic gap between urban and rural areas. This strategic vision seeks to create equitable opportunities for all citizens, irrespective of geographic location.
