Gov’t Continues Tourism-Related Business Tax Exemption for Further Three Months

The government has decided to continue the tax exemption for tourism-related businesses including hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and travel agencies for another three months, to help the tourism sector during the pandemic.

According to an official announcement released on 23 December, the exemption applies only for businesses in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, Kampot, Bavet and Poipet, starting from January to March 2021.

Despite the exemption, business owners in the tourism sector in the above locations still have to submit their 2020 income tax form to the General Department of Taxation before March next year.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the government has imposed tax exemptions for tourism-related businesses several times already including the four-month tax exemption from February to May, then from June to July, and another one from October to December. (Read more and more)

The government also continues to provide a stipend of US$40 per person each month for workers in the tourism sector, who have received a permit to suspend employment contracts from the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.
