Gov’t reclassifies 150,000ha of land in Koh Kong to be reserved state land

The government has taken over 150,000 hectares of land from eight natural protected areas and from the Ministry of Agriculture in Koh Kong province and converted it to state land owned by the provincial administration.

as 50,000 ha has been given to people in the province.

Koh Kong Deputy Governor  Sok Soth said on 21 February that the Government sub-decree set aside 126,000 ha of land from 8 protected areas under the Ministry of Environment to be privately owned by Koh Kong Provincial Administration. (Read more)

There is also more than 25,000 ha of protected land from the Ministry of Agricultural, bringing the total reserved land to over  150,000ha.

Among all, the Provincial Administration has set aside 37,000ha for REDD + Carbon Credit project.

Meanwhile, 50,000 ha have been given to local people with the remaining 90,000ha in hand.
