Gov’t Issues New Regulations for Borey Owners Regarding Cell Towers & Cable Networks

The Telecommunications Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) has urged all borey owners to closely monitor requests from private firms to build cell towers, signal boosters, optic cable networks, and other telecommunications infrastructures in any borey, as those activities are harmful to residents if done improperly.

According to the TRC announcement on 30 September, this new order has been issued after the TRC found out that there are many illegal constructions of cell towers and other telecommunication infrastructures in many boreys.

The TRC added that improper installation of those infrastructures without authorisation will cause radio frequency interference and harm users.

Thus, all borey owners must examine the documents carefully before granting permission for those firms to construct anything within the boreys. Borey owners must also report to the TRC when finding out the firms do not have legal permits.
