Gov’t to Issue EV Development Policy; EV Usage Up 1153% Y-o-Y

The government has set up nine inter-ministerial working groups, institutions and other key development partners to gather input on the draft of the electric vehicle (EV) development policy. 

According to a workshop on 5 December, the policy aims to build a larger network of EV charging stations and encourage further usage of EVs in Cambodia. 

HE Pov Maly, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, confirmed that as of October 2022, a total of 625 electric vehicles were registered, an increase of about 1153% compared to 2021. 

The above figures show that the use of electric vehicles in Cambodia is currently on the rise, which is why the government has started to set up a working group with the participation of nine inter-ministries and other stakeholders to draft the policy, he added. 

HE Pov Maly continued that the ministry has been preparing a draft national policy on transportation to support this policy as well.
