Growth of Associations and NGOs in Cambodia Reaches Nearly 7,000

Cambodia’s civil society sector continues to expand steadily, with nearly 7,000 associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) now officially registered with the Ministry of Interior, according to H.E. Touch Sokha, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry. The update was shared during a press briefing earlier today.

A report from the General Department of Administration revealed that a total of 6,649 entities are currently registered with the Ministry, comprising 2,923 associations, 3,570 NGOs, and 156 indigenous communities actively contributing to social and community development across the country.

In the first nine months of 2025 alone, the Ministry approved the registration of 168 new organizations, including 102 associations and 66 NGOs, reflecting growing civic engagement and participation. During the same period, 69 organizations were removed from the registry as part of ongoing administrative updates.

H.E. Touch Sokha emphasized that this continued growth demonstrates Cambodia’s supportive environment for civil society organizations, which play a key role in assisting the Royal Government and local authorities in advancing social welfare, community empowerment, and humanitarian causes.

“This development reflects our commitment to fostering an inclusive and law-abiding civil society that actively contributes to national progress.”

stated H.E. Touch Sokha.

As Cambodia looks ahead, the expanding network of associations and NGOs is viewed as a driving force for social innovation, community development, and sustainable national growth.
