Japan to Help Improve SHV Deep-Sea Port Management & Operation System

The project to improve the management and operation system at the Sihanoukville deep-sea port phase 3 is set to begin in May, as Cambodia and Japan have just signed a Record of Discussions to officially launch the cooperation.

The signing ceremony was held on January 17 in the presence of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) CEO HE Lou Kim Chhun and JICA Cambodia Chief Representative Ms Kamei Haruko.

The project implementation period is 4 years, with the hope to further develop the port and strengthen its competitiveness in the region upon completion.

In addition to this project, last year, Japan also provided grant aid of US$13.9 million to equip mobile port lifting equipment at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port. (Read more)

Japan has been and continues to help to develop the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port. The port expansion project to 350m long and 14.5m deep phase 1 is expected to begin within this year under the fund of US$200 million from the Japanese government.

Meanwhile, the second and third phases, which will expand the port to a depth of 16m and 17.50m, are also being studied by JICA. (Read more)
