Kandal Province Ranks Second in Registering Informal Economy Workers

Strategic Province Drives National Registration Campaign, Following Closely Behind Phnom Penh

Kandal province continues to lead other provinces in registering informal economy workers, establishing itself as a strategic province with a large population and an economy closely linked to the Phnom Penh capital.

This update was provided by His Excellency Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and Chairman of the Coordination Committee for Informal Economy Development, during a recent campaign event in Kandal province to promote digital registration for informal economy workers.

His Excellency Hem Vanndy reported that as of November 28, 2025, the digital registration platform for informal economy workers had received 234,000 registration applications nationwide. Kandal province holds the second-highest rank in registrations, coming only after Phnom Penh.

In response, the Minister urged informal economy workers in Kandal to continue participating in the registration process to help the province maintain its position as the second most registered province across the country. A report from the Kandal Provincial Administration indicated that the province has nearly 1.4 million residents. Approximately 66,000 of its residents are informal economy workers operating in the 15 priority businesses, occupations, and jobs identified in the National Strategy on Informal Economy Development 2023–2028.

The average income per capita for the province’s citizens in 2024 was $2,456, an increase of $181 compared to 2023. This notable growth includes a significant contribution from informal economy workers.
