Industry Ministry Opens 3rd Cambodia Circular Economy Forum, Urging Practical Industrial Implementation

Minister Hem Vanndy frames circular economy as a driver for national competitiveness, efficiency, and supply chain resilience beyond basic waste management

Phnom Penh: Transitioning from traditional linear production models toward a circular economy has emerged as a crucial strategy for bolstering Cambodia’s industrial competitiveness, resource efficiency, and environmental resilience. On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation Hem Vanndy presided over the opening of the 3rd Cambodia Circular Economy Forum in Phnom Penh. Addressing government officials, industry leaders, and development partners, Minister Vanndy urged stakeholders to actively translate national circular economy policies and frameworks into tangible operational changes inside factory floors, across supply chains, and throughout daily business operations.

Delivering his opening remarks, Minister Vanndy articulated the ministry’s broader economic strategy, emphasizing that from MISTI’s perspective, the circular economy extends far beyond simple waste management. Instead, he framed the circular model as a fundamental shift in production methodologies—redefining how Cambodian industries can enhance resource efficiency, reinforce supply chain resilience, and strengthen long-term market competitiveness.

This initiative aligns with growing global demand for sustainable manufacturing standards and environmentally responsible supply chains. Integrating circular principles into domestic industrial processes enables Cambodian enterprises to meet evolving international trade standards, lower production waste, add value to manufactured goods, and improve environmental compliance.

Noticeably, Minister Hem Vanndy’s call to action at the 3rd Cambodia Circular Economy Forum underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to modernizing its industrial ecosystem. Embedded directly within factories and business practices, circular economic strategies will not only reduce operational costs and enhance market competitiveness for local enterprises but also establish a solid foundation for sustainable, green economic growth across Cambodia.
