Thailand, Korea Mulls Hydropower & Clean Energy Investment in Cambodia

Thailand’s largest company CP Group and Cambodia’s Soma Group have considered investing in hydropower and clean energy projects in Cambodia, while the Republic of Korea’s power sector developer also expressed interest in investment in Cambodia’s power sector. 

According to Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen on 17 December, all investors expressed their intention to invest in this sector to help Cambodia achieve its carbon neutrality goal and ensure energy security. 

PM Hun Sen also requested CP and Soma to work with relevant Cambodian institutions to study clean energy production in Cambodia to ensure the success in the project. 

Meanwhile, according to a meeting between Minister of Information HE Khieu Kanharith, and the Korean company on 18 December, the company also expressed the intention to invest in the production of power storage and transmission equipment. 

The Republic of Korea Electric Power Development Company has been doing business in Myanmar for almost 10 years.
