Land Ministry Gathers Technical Input on 13 National Structural and Geotechnical Building Standards

Phnom Penh: Elevating construction quality, structural resilience, and public safety across Cambodia has reached a crucial technical milestone as authorities move to standardize national building codes. On September 25, 2026, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and Permanent Vice-Chairman of the National Committee for Promoting the Implementation of Building Technical Standards, Theng Chansangvar, chaired a consultative meeting to review, adjust, and gather expert input on a draft proclamation regarding the implementation of 13 Cambodian Standards covering structural components and geotechnical engineering.

The technical session convened senior Ministry officials and specialized engineering experts. Deliberations focused on finalizing the draft framework while establishing structural mechanisms for Nationally Determined Parameters (NDPs) to be integrated as National Annexes into the building code for structural components. Defining these parameters ensures that international engineering models are precisely adapted to Cambodia’s specific geological, climatic, and soil conditions.

Establishing these 13 national technical standards provides clear legal and engineering benchmarks for structural design, geotechnical assessment, and quality control. Standardizing structural component design mitigates structural failure risks and elevates overall building safety, thereby boosting investor confidence and aligning the nation’s construction sector with international engineering norms.

Finalizing the 13 national building standards under the National Committee marks a decisive step toward legal and technical modernization in Cambodia’s construction industry. Incorporating standardized parameters into national annexes strengthens structural oversight, safeguards public infrastructure, and establishes a reliable foundation for sustainable urban development.
