Ministry approves Gold Tower 42 to continue construction

Gold Tower 42 resumed construction work with permission from the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) after months of suspension due to safety reasons.

In November 2019, incidents involving metal falling from the construction site caused damage to vehicles below. Following these work-related incidents, the MLMUPC forced a temporary pause to the construction.

MLMUPC lifted the ban after Gold Tower 42 finally complied with the required safety standards according to H.E. Seng Lot, MLMUPC spokesperson, at a press conference organised by the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit at the Office of the Council of Ministers on 16 March 2020.

“Regarding the case, the Ministry invited the two parties to meet and already solved the problem. We sent the Construction Review Committee to the site and decided to temporarily pause the construction,” said Lot.

“After a while, we permitted them to continue their project provided that they comply with technical standards. For instance, they have to remove the old swinging ladders away from the road corners, and they have to find other means to deliver their construction materials until the construction is finished,” he added.

Construction started on Gold Tower 42, worth an estimated US$240 million, in 2008 and was suspended in 2010 due to the global economic crisis. Operations resumed on the decade later in 2018 and were scheduled to be completed in 2020. (Read more)
