MoI: Foreigner Permanent Resident Card Valid for Real Estate Sale & Purchase Transactions

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has urged all government institutions and the private sector the recognize and use foreigner permanent residence cards as valid documents for any governmental administrative or business-related transactions.

The urge comes after both state and private sectors have not yet fully recognized the value of the permanent residence permit.

According to the 1994 Immigration Law, the permanent residence permit holder can use their card to apply for any administrative services, public services, health services, banking services, real estate transactions, or business applications, among others.

The permanent residence card for immigrants is only valid for 2 years and can be renewed.

To date, at least 60,000 foreign immigrants over the age of 18 have been granted permanent residency by the Cambodian government.

7,000 out of 9,000 foreigners who are staying permanently can apply for an extension.

To date, there are nearly 10,000 immigrant foreigners who stay illegally in Cambodia and refuse to apply for a new residence permit, which is one of the challenges the MOI is trying to tackle.
