MPWT to Seek More Funds to Repair Over 400 km of Flood-damaged Roads

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) will seek more funds to repair over 400 kilometres of flood-damaged infrastructure across the country, according to Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol during road inspection on 19 October.

“The last report I received was on the 17 October. Around 123 roads, 308 sections or equal to 400 kilometres of road were damaged by the flood, of which 140km were red road and the rest were paved roads,” he said.

“We will seek for funds to do urgent repairs, either from the national budget or from our development partners,” he added.

To date, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport is taking several measures to prevent the damage, including preventing water from flowing onto roads, stopping traffic and large trucks crossing the road, etc.

The ministry also confirmed that NR4 will be opened for traffic tonight. However, NR3 and NR5 will not be opened yet.

HE Sun Chanthol also said that the government is working very hard to repair the flood-damaged roads and upgrade them if possible, to prevent severe flooding from next year. (Read more)
