New Cambodia-vietnam Border Market to Open in Tbong Khmum

Tbong Khmum Province

A commercial market on the border of Cambodia and Vietnam named “Psa Dar” is expected to be open by the end of this year. Located in Dar commune, Memot district, Tbong Khmum province, the market has been funded via a USD2 million grant from Vietnam government.

The market is expected to be a lucrative hub and employment creator for traders from Cambodia and Vietnam. Meanwhile, it also is a blueprint for the further development of similar markets along the Cambodia-Vietnam border.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E Vu Quang Minh said at the groundbreaking ceremony on 16 January 2018, that the establishment of the market also celebrates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Vietnam. According to Fresh News, the initiative will strengthen the relationship, culture, and cooperation in all sectors of the two countries, reported Fresh News.

From the Cambodia side, H.E Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce said during the ceremony that it is the beginning of a new era in strengthening the cooperation and commerce on the Cambodia-Vietnam border, and to ultimately achieve the investment goal of USD5.000 million based on the master plan.

“I hope that this market will serve many benefits for Cambodian people and the business of the two countries and will especially help take down all the commerce barriers at the borders of these two countries,” H.E Pan Sorasak was reported as saying.

If this market goes well, construction on similar models will proceed in many areas along the border.
