New NR4-Monivong Bokor National Park Road Reaches 30% Completion Milestone

The NR4-Monivong Bokor National Park Road, a major infrastructure project connecting the National Road No. 4 to the Bokor mountain, has reached a significant milestone. As of 8 April 2023, the project has reached 30 percent completion, according to Mr Svay Vuthy, a representative of Sokha Hotel Company, which is responsible for the construction of the road. The construction progress was confirmed by Mr Vuthy during the inspection of the project by HE Chea Sophara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction.

He added that “the road will be built in steps, with the first step being the construction of a Macadam Road. Once completed, the road will be accessible to high-end cars and motorcycles at a speed of 15 to 20 kilometres per hour.”

The new road, which is approximately 61 kilometers long, will be built with a width of 20 meters, divided into two 3.5-meter-wide car lanes and 3-meter-wide motorbike lanes, with 3.5-meter-wide sidewalks on each side. The plan studied by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport calls for the road to be built with an Asphalt concrete paved road (AC) and the addition of a 200-millimetre-thick concrete floor and rubber for long-term stability.

The new road, built by Sokha Real Estate Co., Ltd, connects National Road No. 4 at km 158+200 in Kampong Seila commune, Prey Nob district, Preah Sihanouk province, towards Bokor mountain, connected with 500 rice fields road. The project, which was approved by the Royal Government in February 2022, will provide better accessibility to the Bokor mountain and boost economic growth in the region.

The NR4-Monivong Bokor National Park Road project is a significant development that will bring numerous benefits to the region. With the completion of site clearance and 30 percent of the construction already complete, it is on track to provide better connectivity and accessibility to the area.
