Twin Flyovers Break Ground with US$16m Investment to Boost  Phnom Penh & Kandal Connectivity

Ground was broken on twin flyovers, costing over US$16 million, to enhance connectivity along the 60-metre boulevard at the intersection of National Road 2 between Phnom Penh and Kandal province. PM Hun Manet presided over the opening ceremony on 17 June 2024.

Constructed with reinforced concrete and I-shaped beams, each flyover spans 9.5 metres in width and 281 metres in length. The north connecting road extends 180 metres, while the south measures 161 metres, totalling 622 metres. Each bridge features three one-way traffic lanes, with dimensions of 3.25 metres + 3.25 metres + 2 metres.

The first flyover directs traffic along Samdech Techo Hun Sen Boulevard, crossing National Road 2 towards Techo International Airport. The second bridge facilitates the reverse route from Techo International Airport to Samdech Techo Hun Sen Boulevard. Capable of supporting up to 25 tons, each bridge maintains a safety height of approximately 5.50 metres at the National Road 2 intersection.

Mr. Sam Piseth, Director of the Department of Public Works and Transport of Phnom Penh, emphasised that this milestone project, overseen by the Overseas Cambodian Investment Company (OCIC), was completed within 12 months at a cost of US$16,200,500. These flyovers will significantly alleviate traffic congestion, marking a pivotal advancement in regional infrastructure.
