PM Hun Sen: Cambodia Shifts Focus From Quantity to Quality for Road Construction

The Cambodian government has changed its strategy from building roads by focusing on quantity and long-distance to building roads with long-lasting quality despite more capital being needed.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the NR3 on 2 March, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen said that the construction of quality roads is in response to the increase in personal vehicle traffic and the transportation of goods.

“The strategy to build the roads from the 1990s to 2000s, we only thought of building roads as long as we can with low quality due to limited budget. Now, it’s time to shift the focus the better quality,” said PM Hun Sen.

NR3 from Phnom Penh and Kampot was rebuilt and upgraded with a loan from China of more than US$215 million. (Read more)
