Joint technical team evaluates project progress, confirming 100% completion on four core construction packages and 77% progress on remaining works to bolster municipal sanitation infrastructure

Siem Reap: Enhancing public hygiene, managing wastewater, and expanding clean water coverage remain key development priorities for the Royal Government of Cambodia in sustaining Siem Reap’s position as a prime cultural and tourist hub. On September 2, 2026, H.E. Chao Sopheaphibal, Director General of the General Department of Wastewater Treatment System at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and WaSSIP Project Director, led a project management delegation on the 15th Implementation Support Mission (15th ISM) for the Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project (WaSSIP) in Siem Reap province. The mission was conducted in close partnership with a World Bank team led by Task Team Leader Kov Phirum, alongside project coordinators, national steering council members, engineering consultants, contractors, and representatives from the Siem Reap Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport.

The primary objective of the field mission was to assess site progress across active contract packages and resolve technical operational challenges. Official evaluation results confirm that four major procurement packages—MPWT-CW-4, MPWT-CW-1A, MPWT-CW-3, and MPWT-CW-6A—have achieved 100% completion. Meanwhile, the remaining contract package, MPWT-CW-9, has reached an implementation progress rate of approximately 77.19% as civil works continue to move toward final delivery.

During joint technical sessions, representatives from the ministry and the World Bank reviewed quality assurance controls and established structured action plans for the upcoming project cycle. These technical discussions aim to optimize operational standards and ensure that newly constructed sewerage networks and water supply infrastructure deliver dependable services to local communities.

In conclusion, the 15th Implementation Support Mission underscores the effective partnership between the Cambodian government and the World Bank in advancing urban sanitation infrastructure. With core construction packages now fully finalized and remaining works nearing completion, the WaSSIP initiative provides a resilient foundation for improved public health, enhanced environmental protection, and sustainable municipal utility services in Siem Reap.
