Siem Reap Sanitation and Water Supply Project Achieves Major Milestones

The Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project in Siem Reap City has made substantial progress, with core contract packages now exceeding ninety percent completion. The advancement was highlighted during an on-site inspection on June 1, 2026, led by Chao Sopheaphibal, the Director General of the General Department of Wastewater Treatment System and project director.

The delegation for the inspection included representatives from the Siem Reap Provincial Wastewater Management Unit, the project consulting joint venture of CTI Engineering International Co., Ltd., and PPIC Co., Ltd, alongside construction teams from China Railway No.2 Engineering Group Co., Ltd., and the Phkay Prek and Jace Korea-Joint Venture. Technical experts also joined the tour to review the operational standards of the developing utility infrastructure.

The field visit aimed to monitor several vital components of the urban upgrade, focusing heavily on the installation of sub-branch and lateral sewer lines, the integration of residential wastewater connections, and the development of two new sewage pumping stations located on the eastern and western banks of the Siem Reap River. Additionally, the team assessed the construction of new concrete roads being paved as part of the broader infrastructure restoration.

According to official project data, the scope of the development is divided into specific work packages. Contract package MPWT-CW-6A, which encompasses sewer network installations and household connections, has achieved 90.70 percent completion. Meanwhile, the complementary package MPWT-CW-9 has reached 37.22 percent completion as operations continue to scale up across the provincial capital.

The Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project (WaSSIP) aims to expand water supply services and enhance wastewater management systems in selected towns and provinces. The project also seeks to improve sanitation and the overall well-being of the population. This initiative is a five-year endeavor, financially supported by the World Bank and the Royal Government of Cambodia. (read more)
