SSCA Gives Authority to Provincial Administration for Battambang Project

The State Secretariat of Civil Aviation has stated that investors wishing to invest or study the feasibility for the Battambang airport project shall talk directly to the provincial administration.

SSCA spokesman Sin Chansereyvutha said that there have been a few investors who have approached the provincial municipality directly.

“They [provincial administration] have a committee and the civil aviation is just a member of that committee. Thus, we give the right to decide, and we only provide support,” he said.

Regarding the process, earlier this year, local authorities already started demarcating and registering land ownership for the airport site. However, since then, there has been no further progress reported. (Read more)

The airport was first launched in 1968 to serve domestic flights. It then was closed in 1975 during the Khmer Rouge regime. The airport was reopened and used for civilian aircraft until it was abandoned in the late 1990s.
