Gov’t Starts Demarcating Land for Battambang Airport Renovation Project

Battambang local authorities have already started demarcating and registering land ownership at the Battambang airport site while waiting for the actual renovation project to begin soon.

Battambang Deputy Governor of Province Soeum Bunrith said on January 25 that the demarcation is being done both in Sangke district and Battambang city for future reconstruction.

“People who are occupying the land illegally must leave the site, as the government will not issue any land ownerships to those people, despite countless requests,” said Mr Bunrith.

“The reasons for doing are to end the land encroachment and more importantly to prepare the land for the renovation project,” he added.

Mr Bunrith continued that, for the renovation project details, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation is studying and finalizing it; hopefully it will be done soon.

The airport has been shut down for decades. However, there are some remaining facilities, including a 1,600-metre long runway and an old terminal.
