Stung Prek Tnaot Rehabilitation Project 60% Complete

The Stung Prek Tnaot Rehabilitation Project has been 64% completed, according to HE Mao Hak, Deputy Chief of Tonle Sap Authority on 25 August.

After completion, the Prek Tnoat reservoir will help alleviate floods in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province, by releasing 1,350 cubic meters of water per second from the 7 Makara Dam.

In order to relieve the flood in Stung Prek Tnaot, the ministry also diverted the direction of three reservoir dams in Oral district, Kampong Speu province.

The first reservoir is the Tasal Reservoir in Tasal commune, with a storage capacity of 154 million cubic meters. The project was built by the Ministry of Water Resources in 2011 and completed the first phase in July 2014.

The second one is the Svaab Reservoir Dam or the Dead Monkey Reservoir Dam, which is located in the area of Chamlong Tieu Dam, Chambok commune, Phnom Sruoch district. The reservoir dam can store about 130 million cubic meters of water.

The third is Stung Khleach Reservoir Dam in the Oral district. This reservoir dam can store water similar to Tasal Reservoir Dam.

Stung Prek Tnaot is a long river in Cambodia, flowing from the Oral Mountains in Kampong Speu Province to the border of Koh Kong Province, then ending up in the Bassac River via Prek Kampus to Takhmao city in Kandal province.
