Opening of Bak Kheng Water Treatment Plant Phase 2 Set to Transform Water Supply Landscape

The second phase of the Bak Kheng water treatment plant is poised to commence operations on 29 February 2024. The noteworthy development, as reported by the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority’s Facebook page, signals a major stride in bolstering the nation’s water treatment capabilities.

HE Long Naro, the government delegate overseeing the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority, led a technical inspection team on 23 February to assess the final inlet shaft which has a diameter of 2000mm. The comprehensive inspection covered the drilled holes beneath the Tonle Sap River, Prek Pnov Bridge, and the east bank to the west of the Outlet Shaft, confirming their successful cleaning.

As a result, the Bak Kheng Water Treatment Plant Phase 2, coupled with the 2,000mm water main pipe, is slated for trial operation on 29 February 2024. The ambitious 2-metre-diameter water main pipeline, aptly named “The Great Pipe of Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen,” initiated its drilling beneath the Tonle Sap River in February 2023. Spanning 540 metres from the east bank to the west bank of the Prek Pnov bridge, this undertaking demonstrates the nation’s commitment to advancing water supply infrastructure. (Read more)
