The Royal Government of Cambodia is seeking funding for the implementation of a 38.34 km road infrastructure project in Siem Reap town in order to promote the economy and beauty of Siem Reap city as a city of tourism, culture and history as well as to connect downtown Siem Reap to the rural areas outside the former Angkorian city.

The cross-border road improvement project is currently in the process of being studied. On 27 June 2020, HE Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, said on the occasion of the discussion meeting on the project that,

“Now is the time to study the master plan for the redevelopment of the road infrastructure in Siem Reap just as we did for the Sihanoukville because it is a tourist city to promote the national image among the international community through international tourists.”

The minister also mentioned that Siem Reap is one of the main economic pillars of Cambodia and the economic link between Battambang and Siem Reap provinces.

Currently in Siem Reap, the ministry is undergoing a number of renovation projects on the city’s ring road, including 14.95km of road N.0 2SR3, to be upgraded to DBST level, along with the 4.6km Khnar Chas Road (Samdech Chea Sim Street), funded by an ADB loan, and the 45km South Siem Reap Corridor Project using a loan from EDCF of the Republic of Korea.
